This tool features a cable cutter, insulation stripper and crimper for BT standard telephone plugs in one handy device. This is an essential tool for anyone needing to fit BT standardised 4-way or 6-way telephone plug connectors (431A or 631A) to telephone cable.
4 or 6 Way Connectors?
The 431A 4-way connection is used by single-line connections, most commonly home telephone lines and older connections. If you wish to connect a multi-line phone system you should use a 6-way line with 631A plugs.
It is important you make sure which type of plug you require before purchasing. If you are unsure however, the 6-way 631A plug tends to work with both types of connection and is most commonly used by modern phone lines.
Useful Features – A razor sharp steel cutting blade makes cutting through cable easy, but its recessed design keeps fingertips intact. The heavy-duty grips keep the cutters stable and predictable during use.
Directions – The cable stripper allows for even cutting of PVC insulation without damaging the cores inside, simply insert the cable into the recess, squeeze the grips, and rotate the cable 360 degrees. The insulation should now slide away easily.
Having removed enough insulation, separate the coloured wires within, lay the conductors out in order and push them into a connector then crimp using the tool. The order of wires will differ between 431A and 631A connectors, but there are plenty of guides on the internet to help you do this process correctly.
