Product information
Infuse a touch of the Mediterranean into your patio space with this generous assembly of fruit trees. Citrus trees serve as exceptional additions to patios, thriving when placed outdoors during the warmer months and finding a cozy haven within a heated greenhouse or conservatory throughout winter. Meanwhile, Green Figs exhibit greater resilience and can be skillfully trained along a wall, yielding a delectable harvest of verdant figs. Heights can reach up to 3m (9′), with spreads extending up to 4m (13′). The Mediterranean Fruit Collection encompasses: Tahiti Lime – Abundant seedless limes grace the branches, maturing from their initial hue to a bright yellow if left on the tree. Orange ‘Calamondin’ – Petite, succulent oranges offer an initial hint of bitterness that transforms into a delightful sweetness upon consumption. Lemon Tree – While the fruits might demand up to a year to fully ripen, the wait is richly rewarded by their eventual succulence. Green Fig – The period from August to September yields a bountiful supply of sweet and juicy figs, presenting a delightful treat.
- Containers, Borders, Specimen Plants in Sunny areas
- Fertile Any Fertile
- Planting period – All year
- Citrus Trees – Plant citrus trees in patio containers in a mix of ericaceous compost and neutral, soil based compost such as John Innes No. 3. Repot the plant at its original soil level and firm well into the new container. Water well and position in a frost free position in full sun. Fig Trees – Grow fig trees in a sheltered, sunny position. A warm, south facing site against a wall is ideal. Figs prefer a moisture retentive, fertile, well drained soil that is slightly alkaline. Prior to planting fig trees, incorporate plenty of well rotted manure or garden compost into the planting hole. Figs have a vigorous growth habit but can be restricted by constructing a 60cm (2’) square, open bottomed brick or concrete pit around the root system. Add a 15cm (6”) layer of broken stone to the base of the pit. Alternatively plant figs in large patio containers using a well drained compost such as John Innes No.3. When growing fig trees in containers they should be repotted every two years. If figs are to be wall trained, install support wires prior to planting.
